Inspired by ... English Majors

English majors and book lovers alike are pretty awesome, granted this opinion is completely biased because I am also a 'Lit Nerd'. Whether you have your own little library growing in your room, stay up until the wee hours of the night reading for the fun of it, or maybe you aren't an English major but just love to curl up with a good book, this post is for you!

Book inspiration

Books are a huge influence in a person's life, especially for English Majors who have to read several novels, plays, poems, and what-have-you's a week, and so it seems only natural to incorporate some of this influence into the wardrobe!

Also, this is sort of a "kill-two-birds-with-one-stone" post. The following outfits not only draw inspiration from novels, but also show how you can wear graphic T's with skirts and still look stylish! You can wear the shirt either tucked into the skirt or over, and to complete the "English Major Inspired Look," I added some flat oxfords. I love how oxfords create an academic look, but the skirts keep the outfit fun and flirty. The graphic T's remain the center of attention, as novels should.

The Style

Each outfit features a skirt which compliments the colours of the graphic tee, whether its the orange pigments in the Nancy Drew graphic or the pink font of The Bell Jar. To recreate this look, you can either pair a graphic T with a skirt of the same colour for something more monotone, or choose a skirt with an underlying colour in the graphic T (as I did) to really make the outfit look pulled together. The oxfords contribute to the academic look, but the skirts keep the menswear feel to a minimum.

Since this is a spring look, and it is still quite cold throughout Canada, pair a cardigan and knit tights with a chunky circle scarf to stay warm!

I personally can't wait until spring when I can wear this look!

Bonus Outfit: Alice in Wonderland

Fall down the rabbit hole while reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol, all the while looking classy. The cover of the novel from Modcloth was the source of the inspiration for this outfit, so I kept to the pink and cream palette for the skirt and blouse, while the open brogues keep the outfit looking feminine and academic. Add a cardigan with a white rabbit (wearing adorable glasses I may add, must be an intelligent rabbit!) and an Alice in Wonderland necklace to complete the look!
