Why you need eyeshadow primer
Eyeshadow primer is essential to longer lasting wear and color. It preps your eye for the shadow you are about to apply, and prevents any smudging from occurring and also brightens your eye to make the color really stand out. With the right primer, your eyeshadow can last from 7am to 7 pm (and sometimes even longer) with the shadow looking like you just applied it!What I used before
Before I used Urban Decay's Primer Potion I had used Mac's Shadestick in Beige-ing, recommended by a sales associate at the Mac counter.

The shadestick was easy to apply, easy to remove, brightened my eye and my eyeshadow. These shadesticks are actually makeup sticks meant to be applied either on their own or act as a base for other eyeshadows. The color is really nice, you will love wearing it on your own, and with their compact size and easy application they are perfect for tossing in your purse for a quick touch-up later in the day.
However, it is a little oily, and this is why it does not make a very good eyeshadow primer, eyeshadow will move around and settle into the crease of your eye.
Foundation as a primer
For some, foundation or a little pressed powder is all you need for primer. This is perfect because you don't need to make an extra purchase, and the color already matches your skin so your eye will look perfectly smooth. However, make sure you don't apply too much or it may be too oily. A quick dab on your finger, sponge, or brush is all you really need.Urban Decay Primer Potion

La piece de resistance, Urban Decay's Primer Potion is a godsend. I finally gave in at Sephora and couldn't be happier. It may be a little pricey for 10 ml, ($18-23 depending on your shade) but it is definitely worth it. You need the smallest dab on each eye lid, and then using your finger evenly apply throughout the eye lid, from your lash line to your crease. The color matches my skin and instantly smooths the eye. And like a makeup magnet this potion holds onto any shadow you apply, making it easy to apply gradients or mix colors. It is easy to apply and very easy to remove
It will not smudge, it will not budge. At the end of the day, it looks like I just applied eyeshadow. If you don't already own a bottle, you need to purchase one right away. However, there is a reason there are hardly any left on Sephora shelves, so if your makeup boutique has recently restocked make sure you grab one!
